Robert Baden-Powell,
1st Baron Baden-Powell. |
Scouting was founded in 1907 by Lord Robert Baden-Powell or B/P as he is fondly called. This was after an experimental camp on Brown Sea Island in August of the same year. The first scout troop to be formed in Trinidad was at Queen’s Royal College under the leadership of Canon Arthur Dolly. This was in 1911 and it was registered as 1st Port-of-Spain, but is better known today as First QRC. The movement came to Trinidad through the efforts of Major Randolph Rusk, an oil magnet who was a pioneer in oil exploration in Trinidad. Scouting started in Tobago in the early 1920’s. Our Association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1963, the year following our Independence.
